I loath to admit it, but I have been known to watch the show "Jon and Kate Plus 8" on occasion. My wife, who will watch any show that involves people with multiple births or little people, has convinced me that the show is okay to watch because it is based in Reading, PA...which is close to where Angie's Wedding was. I know, it is twisted man logic, but it is what I do to explain away my watching it. Now, I just need a way to justify my love of Gilmore Girls.
Anyhow, part of the reason I watch the show is not because the kids are cute or because I like to see them go on trips to Disney. No, it is much deeper than that. I was waiting to see how long it took for the two of them to self-implode. There were two things that I noticed from the start:
1. Kate belittled and railed on Jon - Now, let me preface this by saying that it must take a special person to handle all those kids at once. I bearly have a handle on the little one's I have. However, Kate never treated Jon like a partner in this show. Not once, at least that I ever saw. She scolded him. She belittled him. She tore him down.
Boys have a tender little thing called an "ego" that can get them into trouble when it is not properly cared for. If it is, they will be like loyal dogs who would protect their master from a raging bear or cougar.
Kate took Jon's ego and stomped on it...several times...in front of millions.
Now, while I cannot condone adultery, I can see where Jon could be swayed by some cute little chickey who might show him some attention. Lamb to the slaughter.
Anyhow, that leads me to number 2...
2. Jon took it - Conflict is a tricky thing. If you confront it, it often leads to a double heaping of conflict and that can be taxing. However, to not confront it leads to resentment and bitterness. Not confronting it is like finding out you have cancer, but not treating it. Just let it eat you up.
I'm just saying. Jon allowing Kate to treat him that way, gave her license to do so.
One more thing that bugged me. They said that they were both in it for the kid. What? If you were in it for the kids, you two would talk it out, treat each other with respect, and realize the best thing to do for the kids would be to love one another.
As near as I can tell, outside of having a whole lot more diapers to change in a short period of time, they don't deal with anything interpersonally different than the rest of us. Jon, say you were wrong and beg for forgiveness. Kate, apologize to Jon and beg for forgiveness.
Or call it quits. I really don't care, but don't try to convince us you are in it for more than the money and fame, even though you said you didn't sign up for the scrutany...*sigh* "I'm in it for the kids" Idiots.
Maybe TLC should force them to get some professional help. Better yet, maybe they should take some time and see how the Dugger's do it and they have almost twice the kids.
