Mike Seaver shouldn't act like that...

I had heard good things about FIREPROOF the movie before I saw it on Sunday, but to be honest, I wasn't expecting much. We watched it during the morning and afternoon service. It was almost like a date and not a church service. Our friends had the foresight to drop the kids off at grandma's house and Emma and Mik went to kid's class for the time we were watching the movie. There was even popcorn. I'm telling you...it was a good date.

Anyhow, I am skeptical of "Christian" entertainment/movies as a whole. They usually want the glitz and glam of Hollywood, but to make it "holy", which usually means BORING! I feel the same way about Christian music, Christian merchandise, and the "Jesus-ing" up of stuff. That is just me. So, I went in not expecting much.

However, I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. The movie was well done from a film making standpoint. Well, the effects were minimal, however, what effects they had, were solid and convincing. The storyline, while predictable, was effective.

And, as far as the Christian stuff went, it was handled well. There was a clear presentation of the Gospel and the relational information given out were fantastic. I was impressed. I think we should have movie/date service once a month. I suggest "The Princess Bride" for next month.

There was one thing that bothered me: I just wish Mike Seaver would have treated his wife better. And, that was why I found myself in tears several times during the movie. Not because I was being a sensitive sissy.

Really.

I enjoyed the movie and it had a great message, but the acting...eh, it was on par with the Lifetime movie of the week.

I did watch an episode where the Duggars were able to meet Kirk and he explained that he is really particular on his choices for films. He even had his wife as the actual stand-in at the end of the movie because he didn't want to pretend to kiss another woman even if it was acting. Now that's commitment!!
